Apple takes up the banner of "device-side AI", is Apple GPT coming?

With the rapid rise of AI tools such as ChatGPT after 2022, technology giants have announced that artificial intelligence will be the focus of their company's development.

Although Apple has remained silent before, it was previously revealed that Apple has canceled its car manufacturing and increased its efforts to generate AI. With the recent release of the new M3 MacBook Air, Apple has called its hardware the "best AI consumer laptop" for the first time.

According to media reports on Saturday, various signs indicate that Apple will add revolutionary AI features to the upcoming iOS 18 and macOS 15 systems. The most anticipated of these is the "AppleGPT" voice assistant based on large models, which can perform continuous dialogue and provide more accurate answers.

In addition, Apple may also add generative AI functions to applications such as photo and video editing.

The analysis pointed out that Appleā€™s truly disruptive approach may be to run artificial intelligence models locally on the device instead of on remote cloud servers. If this technology can be realized, it will win two core advantages for Apple:

Excellent response speed and user experience without sending requests to remote servers;

Excellent privacy protection, user data remains completely on their own devices and will not be collected or used.

Analysts believe that relying on the hardware support of powerful chips such as A17 and M3, Apple is expected to be the first to implement "device-side AI" on consumer devices, far surpassing its competitors in terms of privacy and experience. Although it is only a possibility at the moment, if this ambitious plan comes to fruition, it will give Apple a head start in this artificial intelligence revolution.
